Citi CEO: goverment may be mulling Citi stock sale

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — The U.S. government may be considering selling the Citigroup Inc. shares it owns, Chief Executive Vikram Pandit said Thursday. The government owns 27% of Citi and the Treasury Department said a couple of months ago that it planned on selling the stake over the next 12 months. A lockup on sales of Citi stock by the government ends on March 16, Pandit noted Thursday. “After that they’re free to do what they want to do,” Pandit said during a presentation to investors Thursday. “Given where the economy is and the market is, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re actively thinking about doing something.”
