Gap names merchandising head at Banana Republic

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Gap Inc. on Tuesday said former company veteran Julie Rosen is returning to the largest U.S. clothing chain to head merchandising at its Banana Republic chain, reporting to the division chief Jack Calhoun. Rosen, a 15-year company veteran, will lead all of Banana Republic’s product merchandising and manage licensing relationships with third-party vendors, San Francisco-based Gap said. Rosen held a similar role at Banana Republic during much of the 1990’s and was part of the team that successfully repositioned the brand as an “affordable luxury” label, Gap said. She was most recently a consultant to apparel brands including Theory and Nike , Gap said. Rosen is replacing Nick Coe, who left at the end of 2008, Gap said. Like its larger sister chains Old Navy and Gap, Banana Republic has also suffered declining sales.
