SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) – National Semiconductor on Thursday reported a third-quarter profit of $53.2 million, or 22 cents a share, compared with a profit of $21.1 million, or 9 cents a share for the year-earlier period. Revenue was $361.9 million, up from $292.4 million for the same quarter the previous year. For the current quarter, the company said it expects revenue between $375 million and $390 million. Analysts had expected the chip company to report earnings of 18 cents a share, on revenue of $348.6 million, according to a consensus survey by Thomson Reuters.
