SEC probe weighs on Almost Family, Amedisys

BOSTON (MarketWatch) — Shares of home health-care providers Almost Family Inc. and Amedisys Inc. fell sharply Thursday on news that the Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating the companies. In separately released statements, both companies said the SEC had subpoenaed documents related to an on-going investigation by the Senate Finance Committee into their Medicare billing practices. According to the Wall Street Journal, the committee has also been investigating two other home health-care providers, Gentiva Health Services and LHC Group . Shares of American Family, Gentiva, and LHC were down about 10% in afternoon trading. Amedisys shares were hit harder, down 14% at $37.80.
